SILVER Focus Group - no. 2

The second SILVER focus group met on 26 June. Our team of six history and citizenship teachers came into the Bridgeman Art Library to test the first online version of the Suffragette prototype and give us their feedback. In the first focus group in March, the SILVER project team had presented the teachers with ideas for this prototype; this time, the teachers got to play around with the activities online.

Paired up on laptops, teachers worked through activities about the roles of women in the 19th and 20th centuries

and the methods of protest used by campaigners for the women’s vote. A timeline tool is still under development. Teachers also heard more from the project team about the guided reasoning system that will be incorporated into future activities.

The teachers gave constructive criticism and insightful feedback regarding content, usability, and scope of the online tools. The project team will be working on changes during the summer months and will have a new version of the prototype ready to test at the third focus group meeting in September.

The in-class testing element of the SILVER project is also about to start – the project team will be going into our teachers’ classrooms and testing the activities with students at various points during the prototype’s development.
